This Privacy Policy applies to knowthecode.io, owned and operated by Know the Code LLC (“Know the Code”, “KTC”, “we”, “us”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect and use the personal information you provide and we collect from you. It also describes the choices available to you regarding the use of, your access to, and how to update and correct your personal information.

Information We Collect About You
We collect several types of information about you. We may collect this information either directly when you provide it to us or automatically as you navigate through our website.
Information You Choose to Provide
We collect the information you choose to provide to us when you sign up, correspond with us, or interact with our website.
- Become a member When you become a member, we will collect your username, real name, e-mail address, and billing information.
- Opt-in to hear from us When you opt into our newsletter and mailing list, we collect your name and e-mail address. We use two third-party services to collect your information: OptinMonster and ActiveCampaign. We use a third-party service, ActiveCampaign, to distribute the newsletter.
- Fill out a form When you fill out a form, such as the contact form, we do collect your name, e-mail address, and the correspondence.
- Post When you post a comment, ask a question, or answer someone in our Pro Forums, we will collect your e-mail address and comment. Comments posted on public articles are viewable by the general public. Comments posted in our Pro Forums, however, are only viewable by members.
- Member activities As a member, when you click on an interactive history button, we collect and store that activity. For example, you can mark a video complete, watch later, or favorite. Why?
- to give quick links to continue building and learning (viewable in your Dashboard and Your Activity History).
- to help you visualize your progression by marking completed content through a roadmap, lab, course, or project.
- Register When you register for an event such as a webinar, we will collect your name and e-mail address. We will email you about the event.
- Participate in a Survey When you participate in a survey, you decide what personal information you want to share. Only that information is collected and stored.
We do not store the information. Rather, it is collected and stored on our third-party survey partner, Survey Monkey. - Payment History We do collect a history of payment transactions which includes a transaction ID from the payment service (i.e. PayPal or Stripe), the date, and whether it was successfully processed.
Information We Do Not Collect or Share
We collect the information you choose to provide to us when you sign up, correspond with us, or interact with our website.
- Email us When you email us directly, we do not collect any information from you. Your email is not processed through our website, but rather goes through Google’s gmail.
- Payment details We do not collect or store your payment information including your account or credit card information. Rather, we use third-party payment services such as PayPal and Stripe. You pick which payment service you want to use when you sign up for a premium product, service, or event, such as a membership, course, webinar, mentoring, and code review.
- Sponsoring Partners We do not share your information with our sponsoring partners.
Information We Automatically Collect
We do automatically collect several types of information about you. The information we collect is for statistical purposes as well as convenience tools for you.
- Last Viewed We do store the post ID of the current article, lab, course, or piece of content that you are currently viewing. Why? To give you a quick link in your Dashboard to continue where you last left off in your last session.
- Video viewing statistics We use Vimeo Pro as our video hosting service. Vimeo collects timestamps and number of views for each video and not per person. We do not provide Vimeo any information about you.
- Post a comment We will collect your e-mail address and comment when you comment on a post or in our Pro Forums.
- Video Watched When you complete watching a video, we do store a record of completion for your activity history. This feature is a convenience to make it easier for you to quickly navigate your progression through a lab, project, roadmap, and/or course.
- Analytics We do count the number of views and completions for the educational content. This information is purely a count with no personal information bound to it. It is a general viewing count for analytical purposes.
- Google Analytics We use Google Analytics to understand the traffic to our website. This information is collected and stored by Google and not on our website. The information collected does not include your email, name, account information, or billing information. Rather, it includes such information as:
- Your IP or proxy server IP;
- Basic domain information;
- Your Internet service provider is sometimes captured depending on the configuration of your ISP connection;
- The date and time of your visit to our website;
- The length of your session;
- The pages which you have accessed;
- The website which referred you to us;
- The operating system which your computer uses./li>
How We Use Your Personal Information and Other Data
We use your personal information and other data to better serve you.
- We use your personal information solely to provide our services to you.
- Interactivity and your activity history is used to help you quickly navigate and track your progress.
- Your membership information is used to communicate with you about your membership including renewals, payment issues, and changes to our service.
- When you elect to opt-in or communicate with us, we use your information to communicate with you, answer your questions, and inform you of deals and new content.
- We use non-identifiable data to analyze trends, understand our business and traffic, administer the website, and gather demographic information about our user base as a whole.
Control of Your Personal Information
When you register, or otherwise give us personal information, our site will not share that information with third parties without your permission, other than for the limited exceptions already listed. It will only be used for the purposes stated in this privacy policy. We will also give you the ability to opt out before we disclose your personal information to a third party or use your personal information for purposes that are fundamentally different than the purpose for which it was originally created. You may sign-up to receive newsletter or other communications from us. If you would like to discontinue receiving this information, you may update your email preferences by using the “Unsubscribe” link found in emails we send to you or at your member profile on our website or by contacting us at support@knowthecode.io.
How Long We Retain Your Personal Information and Other Data
All information is stored indefinitely unless you request to remove it.
Access to Your Personal Information
You can access your information through the My Stuff menu:
- Access your Account Activity by visiting Your Activity History
- Access your name, email, and billing information by visiting My Account
- Update, cancel, or pause your membership and/or billing by visiting My Subscriptions
- View your payment history by visiting My Payments
Upon request Know the Code will provide you with information about whether we hold, or process on behalf of a third party, any of your personal information. To request this information please contact us at support@knowthecode.io.
We will provide you with the means to ensure that your personal information is correct and current. If you have filled out a user profile, we will provide an obvious way for you to access and change your profile from our site. We will even allow you to completely delete your profile along with all personal information associated with that profile, although this option may significantly degrade your experience with our platform. If you wish to make this request, please contact us at support@knowthecode.io. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe. If you would like view your personal information that we hold at any time, you may access your profile from our website.
How We Protect Your Information
The security of your personal information is important to us.
- Your information is sent over an authenticated and encrypted connection using the Secure Socket Layer (SSL).
- We communicate with third-party partners (as identified in this Privacy Policy) via SSL.
- We use firewalls, limit login attempts, and host with a provider who actively monitors security and intrusions on our website.
Nonetheless, no communication via the Internet can ever be 100% secure.
